Born in India, Aasif Mandvi grew up in the North of England before his family immigrated to the US in the early eighties. Aasif has lived in New York for a decade and has been working professionally on stage in film and television since 1989. Most recently, he is a correspondent on the Daily Show with John Stewart, the hit Comedy Central show which attracts over 1.5 – 2 million viewers every night.
Aasif Mandvi is the recipient of the highly coveted OBIE award for his critically acclaimed One Man Show critically acclaimed Sakina’s Restaurant, which was developed and directed by Kimberley Hughes. This one-man show played rave reviews and extended runs in New York, Los Angeles, London and Toronto.
Some of his other New York stage credits include the 2002 Broadway revival of OKLAHOMA!, Guantanamo; Honor Bound to Defend Freedom, Homebody/Kabul,( by Tony Kushner) Suburbia (by Eric Bogosian) and Trudy Blue (by Marsha Norman).
Some of his Film and Television credits include; The Proposal, Ghost Town, Music and Lyrics, Spider-Man 2, The Siege, Analyze This, The Mystic Masseur, ABCD, American Chai, Sex and the City, Sleeper Cell, The Sopranos, Jericho, Oz, CSI, Law and Order, and E.R. He will soon be featured in a major role in the upcoming film, The Last Airbender directed by M. Night Shyamalan and co-starring Dev Patel.
