Naseeruddin Shah – AKBAR

Described as “the finest actor of the post-independence generation,” Naseeruddin Shah is one of India’s most respected and prolific screen personalities, having appeared in over 140 films over the course of his career. He began his career as part of the “New Wave / Parallel Cinema” of the 1970s, alongside longtime collaborator Om Puri and the late Smita Patil.

Naseeruddin Shah has won countless awards for his range of performances from Bollywood, to Art House Indian films, to American films, including National Film Awards (India), Filmfare Awards (India), and the Venice Film Festival Award for Best Actor. His recent starring role of Lalit Verma, in Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding provided a glimpse of the actor’s true genius. A treasure of Indian cinema, his craftsmanship has allowed him to work in both American films like The League of Extraordinary Gentleman, opposite Sean Connery; A Great New Wonderful; and recent U.K. films like Shoot on Site (2008) audiences, further establishing himself as an actor of great range and versatility. In 2008, Naseeruddin Shah’s A WEDNESDAY, became a critical and controversial smash hit across the world, earning his 7th Best Actor nomination (Filmfare Awards – “the Indian Oscar”).
